Granite Peak Ski Team – Self Sustaining Race Venue
The Granite Peak Ski Team capitalizes on one of our greatest natural resources and provides the only alpine ski training program for youth in central Wisconsin. Their vision is to build champions in life through ski racing. The organization’s goal is to acquire the necessary equipment to create a self-sustaining race venue, which will not only develop local talent but could also lead to the hosting of the U.S. Junior Championships and U14 Junior Olympics. If successful, these events would garner an estimated annual economic impact on the area of four to five million dollars.
“We are extremely grateful for the $10,000 Community Enhancement Grant from the Community Foundation, which is allowing us to attain the timing systems necessary to support a racecourse at Granite Peak capable of handling national race events within the next four years,” says Joel Hynes a board member and grant writer for the Granite Peak Ski Team.
Granite Peak’s mission is to provide the highest quality training environment and professionally run alpine ski program in Wisconsin (Mid-West, USSA Central) where every athlete has an opportunity to reach their highest potential and young men and women become champions in their schools, community, and life. The Community Foundation is proud to partner with local organizations like Granite Peak to provide programs and initiatives in our area that enhance the vibrancy and livability in Marathon County.
