A Restricted Fund established at your Community Foundation is a fund designated to benefit a specific charitable organization or philanthropic purpose. Donors to these funds can be assured that their contributions will be used to benefit their interests. Depending on the goals of the organization, a Restricted Endowment Fund can be established to provide for the future. Capital contributions are invested, not spent, and the earnings from the investments are used to provide a permanent source of revenue.

How to Start a Restricted Fund

Establishing a Restricted Fund allows you to support the good work of a specific nonprofit organization. Because it's given through your Community Foundation, your gift provides the organization you select not only funding, but planned giving and investment management services and the power of endowment.

How it works

You identify an organization that you wish to benefit.
You make a gift to your Community Foundation – you can give cash, appreciated stocks, real estate, or other assets.
We set up a special fund in your name or in the name of the nonprofit organization you choose.
You receive tax benefits in the year your gift is made.
Our board issues grants to the designated nonprofit organization.
We handle all the administrative details, including managing specific qualifications that you may establish for grant disbursements.
You receive updates on the impact the fund is making.
Your gift can be placed into an endowment that is invested over time. Earnings from your fund are used to make grants addressing community needs. Your gift – and all future earnings from your gift – is a permanent source of community capital, helping to do good work forever.

Provides funding for substance abuse awareness and prevention programs

Established by Caroline S. Mark to further the mission of the organization as determined by its board of directors, including building maintenance and support for the hypertension screening program

ANTIGO COMMUNITY FOUNDATION FUND 2006
A component fund, restricted for use within the Antigo area

AVAIL ENDOWMENT FUND 2004
Provides endowed support for the mission and purpose of the organization in Langlade County, as determined by their Board of Directors

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF THE MARATHON COUNTY AREA FUND 1998
Utilized for priority needs of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Marathon County

BIRCH TRAILS GIRL SCOUTS COUNCIL, INC. FUND 2000
Promotes the mission of Birch Trails, as determined by its Board of Directors, within the geographic area currently served by the Council

ELDA BONVINCIN MEMORIAL FUND 2000
Provides support for the Church of the Resurrection; Wausau and Marathon County Park Departments, Ski for Youth program; Friends of Rib Mountain for enhancements of the Rib Mountain State Park; and scholarship funding

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF THE WAUSAU AREA OPERATING FUND 1999
Furthers the mission and provides for the ongoing needs of the Boys and Girls Club of the Wausau Area

CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS ENDOWMENT FUND 1992
Supports art education and exhibitions of regional and Wisconsin art through the work of the CVA

Established through the estate of Ewald W. Pagel for the benefit of physically and/or mentally handicapped children living in the Merrill area

Supported with grants from the Wisconsin Arts Board, the B.A. & Esther Greenheck Foundation, and the Wausau•Marathon County Fund, this fund is intended to encourage cooperation and expansion of opportunities in the arts in Marathon County

Designed to fulfill the mission of the Community Cultural Dance Club

Established to foster the creation of a beautiful, multipurpose commons area that functions in all seasons of the year as a downtown centerpiece and an economic incubator of the Wausau community
