The Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin is here to promote philanthropy throughout north central Wisconsin.
We currently administer affiliate funds serving Antigo, Manitowish Waters, Merrill, and Tomahawk that utilize our investment pool and administrative services. Each affiliate is governed by its own advisory board, and funds raised by and for each community are used to address each community's specific needs.
Antigo Area Community Foundation
Established at year-end 2006, the Antigo Community Foundation Fund has already made a difference in Langlade County. Several sizeable grants awarded in 2007 provided funding for city playground equipment, a radiation center, and restrooms at the tennis courts near the high school. The newly-formed advisory board is making plans to ensure that the Fund continues to serve as a timeless resource for the area.
Manitowish Waters Community Foundation
A donation at year-end 2007 established the Manitowish Waters Community Foundation Fund and extended the reach of the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin towards our state's pristine northwoods. The Fund will award grants to enhance the recreational opportunities and natural beauty of the Manitowish Waters area.
Merrill Area Community Foundation
Established in 2000, the Merrill Area Community Foundation continues to build a solid financial base for the future. The advisory board set a goal of building a fund balance that would grow and develop to meet the current and future needs of the Merrill area. A major step toward that goal was realized in 2007 with the success of a community fundraising campaign spearheaded by a $100,000 challenge grant from Church Mutual Insurance Company. Businesses and individuals responded to that challenge by pledging over $200,000 in matching funds, which took the campaign to $311,000. With a current fund balance in excess of $800,000, the earnings from the Merrill Area Community Foundation Fund will be able to provide the capital needed for the Merrill area to prosper in 2008 and beyond.
Tomahawk Area Community Foundation
The Tomahawk Area Community Foundation, which formed in 2001, continues to reach out to the community and increase awareness of its services. In 2007, the board of directors hosted a business event and a financial seminar for area professionals. Grants were awarded to enable the American Red Cross to provide the elderly with "To-Go Kits" for important papers and personal items that they can "grab and go" in case of an emergency. "Just a Minute" radio spots were funded through the Healthy Community/Healthy Youth Initiative to promote good character in young people. In 2008, the board's focus will be directed in the area of developing, assisting and promoting the arts in the Tomahawk area.
